Pha That Luang in Vientiane

Pha That Luang is a golden Buddhist stupa in Vientiane, Laos. It is one of the most important national monuments and a symbol of both Lao sovereignty and Buddhist religion.

The stupa is believed to enshrine a relic of the Buddha, and it is an iconic site for both locals and visitors. The structure itself is surrounded by smaller stupas and is often the centerpiece of religious and cultural events, including the annual That Luang Festival, which attracts thousands of worshippers and tourists alike.

Pha That Luang's distinctive golden color and towering presence make it a prominent feature of the Vientiane skyline.

The nicely arranged esplanade is very recent.... and did not exist at the time of my last visit (2003)

In this esplanade we meet all kinds of salers...

A bird seller....
you take a bird, make a wish and release it into the wild....

A few minutes later, the sparrow returns to its owner....

To the left of Pha That Luang, this new temple the Vat Dhammasapa

The paintings are really very recent, because no trace of humidity or darkness due to the long rainy season....

Le Pha That Luang se trouve dans une enceinte carrée mesurant environ 92m de côté
